Задание 1. Переведите следующие предложения, выпишите из каждого из них глагол-сказуемое и определите его видовременную форму и залог. Обратите внимание на перевод пассивных конструкций.

4. The stem supports the leaves and flower parts of most plants.

Задание 2. Перепишите предложения, подчеркните в каждом из них модальный глагол или эквивалент. Переведите предложения на русский язык.

1. Agronomists must know various fanning methods, when and where apply fertilizers.

2. The cereals grown in the temperate climate are wheat, barley, oats and rye. They may be spring or winter annuals.

3. Oats can also be grown on land which is moderately acid, where barley or wheat would fail.

4. The crops that one should grow in the home garden depend on the region, the size of the area available and the preferences of the family.

Задание 3. Перепишите предложения, подчеркните Participle I и Participle II и определите функции причастия в предложении. Переведите предложения на русский язык.

1. The food problem is very important, that's why agriculture needs trained skilled professionals.

2. The importance of selection is determined also by the fact that agricultural production is conducted on a vast territory, in extremely diverse natural and climatic conditions.

3. Agronomists study environmental factors affecting the growth of this or that crop.

4. The workers were cultivating the oats at this time last spring.

Задание 4. Переведите следующие предложения, подчеркните инфинитив и определите функцию инфинитива. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на инфинитив в разных функциях.

1. The aim of the agronomist is to get high yields under various climatic and soil conditions.

2. It is very important to know as much as possible about green plants. Without green plants there wouldn't be any food for man.

3. Plant breeders make many experiments with different cultivated and wild species of plant to improve them.

4. Measures to increase the harvest are taken by farmers every spring.

5. It is desirable to produce all kinds of vegetables that can be grown satisfactorily in the region. 

Задание 5. Прочитайте и переведите текст письменно. 

Soils

Good fanning means proper use of natural conditions, land, crops and fertilizers. One of the most important is soil. Soil plays a vital role in the life of the world and mankind. Soils develop under the influences of climate, vegetation, time, the nature of the parent material and the culture. It is a natural resource that supports plant life. Soil is a mixture of particles of rock, organic materials, living forms, air and water. Soil fertility means moisture conditions, plant food and soil structure. They may be regulated by proper management of the soil. Soil management is the science of tillage operations, cropping practices, using fertilizers and other treatments for the production of crops. Good soil management results in better yields. Fertilizers are added to the soil to meet the plant food needs. To grow well plants must be supplied with macro and microelements. Phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulpher are found in large quantities and are called macroelements or primary elements. Such elements as boron, copper, zinc, manganese and molybdenum are found in small quantities and are called microelements or trace elements. Macro and microelements are essential elements of the soil. Essential elements are highly important for crop yields. for livestock and human health. That's why it is necessary to make soil tests to know what elements are deficient in the soil and determine the rate of fertilizers to be applied. Thus the most important thing for the farmer is to get the land into good conditions and to keep it that way.
