At present time, there are many aspects and approaches to the study of the artistic concepts, but it is not possible to establish a single algorithm for its study due to the ambiguity of its nature . The artistic concept is considered within the framework of two directions: as an individual author's mental matter and as an element of the national artistic tradition, the national artistic picture of the world.
L.V. Miller gives her own definition of the artistic concept notion. According to her study, this is “a complex mental formation that belongs not only to individual consciousness, but also to the psycho-mental sphere of a certain ethno-cultural community”. It is she who claims that a complete comprehensive description of the artistic concept is rather impossible because of its fundamental formlessness, vagueness and fuzziness. At the same time, in the thesis of O.V. Bespalova artistic concept is described as "a unit of consciousness of a poet or writer, which receives its representation in a work of art or a set of works and expresses the individual author's understanding of the essence of objects or phenomena".
In a literary text, concepts verbalized through proper names are of particular interest. Like other language means, proper names, being used in the context of a work of art, begin to live and to be perceived in a complex and deep figurative perspective of the artistic whole. Being represented in a literary text, a proper name carries specific artistic and stylistic functions. Each function depends on the act of artistic communication, which most directly affects the quality and quantity of information updated by such a word in each given use. For example, the writer's desire to maximize the possibilities of proper names in the text leads to the fact that they become one of the most important means for creating bright, unexpected images, which determine one of their main functions – pictorial one. In addition, they often allow the author to structure the space of the novel in more detail and thus perform a structuring function. Each writer uses his or her own names in accordance with his or her creative method and the specific ideological and artistic tasks that stand in a particular work.
