Our professor said that you can choose one of the questions and start to write your argumentative essay and use the arguments from the Euthyphro text from the First year seminar book.
1. Are all pious actions just, but not all just actions are pious? Is piety sufficient but not necessary for justice? Support your answers with specific evidence from the text.
2. When Socrates asks Euthyphro to teach him about piety and impiety, what exactly is Socrates looking for? What does he mean by “form and appearance” of piety and impiety? Support your answers with specific evidence from the text.
3. In The Euthyphro, Socrates presupposes that there must be a real definition of holiness in terms of that which all instances of holiness have in common. Argue for or against this presupposition and in doing so pay close attention to the arguments in the dialogue.
