The article focuses on the Switzerland watch-making manufactures called the «Swatches». By 1985 the Swiss industry met problems that were linked to a low demand which was about 5% and the only thing that kept on making money was the luxury watch.
There were two main reasons for such consequences: quality and price. Consumers preferred analogue watches that were manufactured in the US, Hong Kong and Japan. Of course, there were differences in the technology and it caused a much lower price on the analogue product than on the real one.
The solution was created by the Swiss company called ETA. The main aim of the Swatch was to design a much more attractive watch and make that new product fashionable, sporty and trendy. But that project needed huge investments on the manufacturing, promotion and advertising, which required huge amounts of money.
But overall, the new Swatches was a success, as each new design was original, fashionable and differed from each others. Each pair of watches was «Special Edition» with it`s own smelling and design. What`s more there was no need in repairing the product anymore, as it could not go wrong and the quality was at the high level.
