a) Anna sees the following advertisement in a local newspaper: ‘For Sale: Rose Bushes only ?12.99 for five. Hurry—limited supplies. Send cheque to Beautiful Gardens Ltd., PO box 123’. Anna sends a cheque but is told the bushes are sold out.
b) Dave writes to Peter, ‘You mentioned that you would like to buy my red sports car. You can have it for ?5,000. If you want it let me know by the end of the week.’ The following day Dave sells his car to Jane. Peter learns of the sale and immediately tells Dave he accepts his offer.
c) Penelope writes to Quentin offering to buy his scooter for ?200 and says that if she has not heard from him within a week she will assume that he has accepted. A week elapses and Penelope has heard nothing from Quentin.

2. Consider the following case and answer the questions.
Celestica Ltd hired Pickfords Ltd to move his office equipment. On 13 September Pickfords Ltd faxed an offer to carry out the move for a fixed price: ?890 per load plus VAT and insurance. He estimated it would take 96 loads to complete the move, making a total cost of approximately ?100,000. On 27 September Pickfords Ltd sent a second offer on different terms for a fixed price of ?98,760 plus VAT and insurance. On 15 October Celestica Ltd faxed confirmation of first offer price stating that the cost was not to exceed ?100,000. Pickfords Ltd carried out the move and claimed ?98,760 plus VAT and insurance but Celestica Ltd failed to pay the total sum requested.
Was the contract concluded? If yes, when? How much money did Celestica Ltd have to pay?
