Problems:
⦁ (30 points) In 1967, Jacques Bertin published Sémiologie graphique, the first overarching theory of visualization, and one that remains influential toady. Bertin describes seven “visual variables” which are named as visual channels. Bertin also establishes two core principles: the principle of expressiveness (show what you need to; no more, no less) and the principle of effectiveness (use the most efficient method available to visualize your information).
(i) List all visual variables by Bertin, (ii)Write something about Bertin’s visualization ideas.
⦁ (30 points) Brent Dykes lists nine data Story Points in Effective Data Storytelling. List all these points with brief explanation and add some new examples for these points (the more the better). You can sketch some graphs to illustrate ideas.
⦁ (40 points) The PDF file attached is “World Development Report 2022”. Read this file and write comments on data visualization appeared in this report, like graphs and charts app in the report. After comments you may propose some improvements to these graphs or charts.
