WRITING
Mrs. Keller is a secretary of one of the departments of a subsidiary Reliant
Insurance. She is an excellent worker. This morning Mr. Perkins, the officer
manager, got a letter saying that she was giving up her job.
• Read the part of a letter from Mrs. Keller below.
Dear Mr. Perkins,
I have to leave as I have got too much work to do because of computerizing
all the office systems. Moreover, my duties are too numerous to mention.
Mr. Perkins did not want Mrs. Keller to leave, so he tried to persuade her to
change her mind.
Write a letter to Mrs. Keller as if you were Mr. Perkins:
• expressing your surprise at this letter of resignation and asking about the
reasons of her leaving the job;
• explaining why you wish the lady to continue her work in the office;
• saying how you value the contribution of Mrs. Keller to the success of the
company;
• Offering her a higher basic salary and a bonus paid to the employees if the
company exceeds its monthly sales targets.
Use some 100 or 140 words.
