Essay length should be about 2500 words or more. It is not crucial though.
Essay topics. You are free to choose one of the topics offered (mind the levels of difficulty (LD)):
Conduct frame analysis on topic of US sanctions against Russia comparing national American, British, and Russian online media. Pick 2 media of each: British (e.g. BBC, The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian or Sky News); Russian (Vedomosti, Kommersant, Komsomolskaya Pravda, Izvestiya, Rossiyskaya Gazeta), American (NYT, CNN, WSJ.com, usatoday, etc.). Make a search with the keyword “sanctions” or “санкции”. Pick up to 15 articles from each. Choose articles for the same period of time in all media (for example, if American articles are published in May, the Russian and British articles also should be published in May). Your checklist would be:

Key words: appear in title, repeated in text
Flash words: more visible for textual or cultural reasons
Metaphors/attitudes
Grounds: people/events blamed to be the reason of happening events
Actions: how actions are defined

NB! You can choose your own topic for frame analysis upon some international issues, e.g. Israeli-Palestinian conflict; migration crisis in Europe etc. Approval is required.
This one is about South Park series. As you may have noticed, earlier seasons are built on one episode-one story approach while last two seasons share single storyline within the season, so all episodes are connected and Kenny doesn’t die that often anymore. I want you to compare the media effects of South Park series e.g.: how was it in seasons 1-18 VS seasons 19-20. Use Narrative paradigm and Cultivation theory approaches to think of methodological aspects of your research. Think which had more of the cultivation effect and what are the symbols and messages appearing throughout the season. You don’t have to watch all (!), two seasons will be enough ;)
LD 2: medium, can be done in pairs.
Think of drug use practices cultivation in media over the past years: how did it change? Think of your own research strategy and examples to compare. It can be movies such as Butterfly effect, Trainspotting, Up and smoke or Pineapple express. It can be episodes of Family Guy, where the topic is exposed quite often. Try to pick up movies that would share something (like the storyline or genre) but have differences (like the time filmed or release country). Try to watch all episodes of Family Guy though to make a complete analysis. Applying cultivation theory here and cultural approach possibly.
LD 2: medium, done in pairs.
Another essay is also about the South Park series. This time season 8, episode 11 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0705954/) the one about news show VS animals wearing funny hats. For this one would be cool to analyze the case through the prism of both: Uses&Grats theory and critical theory.
This one would be tough as critical theory is quite complicated itself and I expect you to reflect on the contemporary media field and extend your thinking to our social reality (with examples).
LD 3: hard, can be done in groups (up to 3 people)
Public relations theory. Read an article about the relationship management theory (https://www.instituteforpr.org/wp-content/uploads/Gui.. ). Based on the survey on the page 28 of the article, conduct a research about consumers’ relationships with any well-known company. Analyze and interpret the results. What do the results mean for the company? What practical recommendation can you give to the company?
