I. Перепишите данные ниже предложения. Определите по грамматическим признакам, какой частью речи является слово с окончанием -s, и какую функцию это окончание выполняет, т.е. служит ли оно:
a) показателем 3-го лица единственного числа в Present Simple;
б) признаком множественного числа имени существительного;
в) показателем притяжательного падежа имени существительного.
Переведите письменно предложения на русский язык.
1. There are four seasons in a year. Each of them lasts three months. 2. For dessert people eat sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cakes with tea or coffee. 3. At the department store the shop assistant helps the customer to find what he wants.
II. Перепишите следующие предложения, содержащие степени сравнения прилагательных и наречий, письменно переведите их.
1. Moscow is larger than St Petersburg. 2. Spring is warmer than autumn. 3. Travelling by air is the fastest means of travelling. 4. Winter is the coldest season. 5. This is the biggest building in the city.
III. Перепишите следующие предложения, содержащие сравнительные конструкции, и письменно переведите их на русский язык.
1. Pipe and cigar smoke is as dangerous as cigarette smoke. 2. Mary is not so lazy as her brother. 3. The more information it has, the more people will use it. 4. My friend’s dog is as clever as mine. 5. John knows Russian as well as English.
IV. Перепишите и письменно переведите следующие предложения, обращая внимание на перевод неопределенных местоимений и наречий.
1. Any star begins its life as a large ball of rotating gas. 2. There are some diagrams in a new book. 3. Every plant, animal and human being consists of cells. 4. It’s autumn. There a lot of yellow and red leaves everywhere. 5. There are some forms of energy that we don’t know anything about yet.

Winter is the season of snow. It's very cold in winter. Winter is beautiful. It often snows. Trees, fields, gardens, parks, streets and houses are white with snow. The sky is blue and grey. The shortest day in the year is in winter. Winter is a good time for sports. Children and grown-ups enjoy skiing and skating. They also can play snowballs and make snowman. The students have holidays in winter. We celebrate New Year, decorate a fir-tree and put presents under it. We lay the ta¬ble with tasty food.
Autumn is a beautiful season. It is a season of fruit and vegeta¬bles. The leaves in the trees are red, yellow, brown and green. It is warm in September. The school year begins in autumn. In Oc¬tober it is cold and it often rains. The leaves change colour, and fall off. The days are shorter than in summer, the sky is grey and the clouds are dark.
